2nd ever
... Dulcimers in the Cornfield Festival, 2010 |
|
The evaluations tell us that our second festival was a
bigger and better than last year. The workshops, concerts, vendors, and
schedule received some very nice comments. Folks that
had attended the 1st fest immediately noticed the
improvements in the facility since last May. After
Friday night's storm, winds, and dropping temperatures, we
certainly enjoyed the newly installed heat in all the
workshop spaces. We actually had to back off the heat
in certain areas. The improvements are much
appreciated. In talking with Vernon & Kitty, there are
many more to come.
Many parts of the festival and concerts were recorded on
audio and video. We'll be adding videos and posting to
YouTube as well. Stop back often.
Thanks!

In the meantime, you'll find a
RECAP of the festival below. We hope you enjoy it. |

RECAP of our 2nd
ever ....
Dulcimers in The
Cornfield Festival
(May 7 - 9, 2010)
The festival featured Guy George on hammered dulcimer
and Gary Sager
(filling in for Tull Glazener) on mountain dulcimer. Our local
Famous Old Time Music Company 'Circle of Friends' including
Chris Cooperrider, Joyce Harrison, Vernon & Kitty McIntyre,
Joe Steiner, Don Thompson, Sharon & Mike Wildermuth, Mary-Jo
Ward, Louise Ziegler and Shari Wolf filled out the teaching
duties as well as providing the entertainment for Friday
night's Cornflake Jamboree.
Thursday: There were 21
folks that came early for a carry in dinner.
The jamming later helped to set the tone of the festival.
Friday:
Saturday:
Sunday: The
Gospel Celebration ended the weekend with a combination of
music, some light hearted moments, and inspiration. We
all said our good-byes and hoped to see each other next
year.

We had a great time at our first Mountain
Dulcimer Workshop Day & Concert
November 15, 2008
Thanks,
Tull,
for a
great
day!
November 15th
Workshop Recap
Our first mountain dulcimer
workshop/concert day with
Tull Glazener
served as
a great kick-off
for upcoming
events at FOTMC.
On
November 15th in spite of driving rain, snow and sleet, seventeen
dulcimer players participated in Tull's workshops covering playing
in different keys with and without a capo, new repertoire and
ensemble playing. After a fine
supper courtesy of Margaret’s
kitchen, we settled into a fine evening of music.
With candles glowing in a coffeehouse
atmosphere, Kitty & Vernon provided a warm opening set of
traditional bluegrass and some fine fiddling. Tull,
accompanied by Jon Hall on guitar and mandolin, truly showcased the diversity of the
mountain dulcimer with some great tunes and fun vocals from their “Halfway
Home” recording.
The
evening came to a close with Kitty & Vernon, Joyce, and Shari
joining Tull and Jon for some kicking instrumentals and spirited
Gospels. We all went home looking forward to the next time.
