WE DID IT!
The 3rd ever .... Dulcimers in the Cornfield
Festival goes into the history books as a great time.
According to the comments I heard ... classes
were terrific, Friday night's Cornflake Jamboree was a fun
escape with great music, Saturday's headliner concert was
wonderful, the 'family feeling' was prevalent from the time
'I walked in the door,' and more.
Sunday morning's Gospel Celebration was a
sharing of music, devotion, and prayer with a few 'thought
provoking' moments thrown in for good measure.
Thanks to everyone that worked hard including
Dana & Hank Gruber, Doug Berch, FOTMC's Circle of Friends,
and
most of all YOU ... the participants.
THANK YOU!

Announcing
... 3rd ever
Dulcimers in The Cornfield Festival
Date: April 29, 30, & May 1, 2011
FEATURING:
Dana & Hank
Gruber aka 'Sweet Funk' on Mountain Dulcimer
Hank & Dana Gruber from
Milford, OH
first discovered the mountain
dulcimer at the Appalachian Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio in
1997 and have been performing as an acoustic
instrumental duo ever since. "Sweet
Funk comes
from the Latin origin of the word dulcimer; dulci meaning
sweet, and funk…well, we
enjoy playing music that is a little funky
and not traditionally played on the mountain dulcimer."
Their class participants and audiences alike really enjoy
the wide variety of music in their performances and
workshops. For more info on Dana & Hank, check out
their website at
http://sweetfunkmusic.com/ .
and
Doug Berch on
Hammered Dulcimer

Doug Berch
from Okemos, MI, has been performing
and teaching since the mid 1970′s. During the 1980′s he
toured the United States performing at many folk festivals,
dulcimer festivals and concert venues. In 1983 he took first
place in both the National Hammered Dulcimer
and
Mountain Dulcimer Championships in Winfield,
Kansas. Doug performed, recorded and toured with the Celtic
ensemble Colcannon for 10 years. And he taught at The
Swallow Hill School of Music in Denver, Colorado for 10
years. After a long break from building and performing,
we’re happy to have him return. Welcome Doug!

MOUNTAIN DULCIMER ... "Arranging with a
Special Flair"
presented by Dana & Hank Gruber, Sweet Funk
|
|
HAMMERED DULCIMER ... ' Combining Chords and Melody"
presented by Doug Berch (Intermediate level) |
|
This early bird session will focus on transposing
songs from standard musical notation to keys easily
played on the mountain dulcimer in DAD tuning.
The class will be given a "tool kit" that includes
the basics to get started with arranging. As
time allows, we will work as a group on transposing,
arranging, and exploring ways to give our
arrangements that special flair. This one will
be a lot of fun, so please join us! Students
do not need to know how to read standard musical
notation. Arrangements may include a 1+ fret,
but we will include 'work arounds' for those players
without one. Be sure to bring your capo.
The class will be geared to intermediate level
players, but all levels are welcome.
Early Bird Fee: $20 |
|
A
basic knowledge of chords opens the door to playing
much more interesting arrangements. The
hammered dulcimer is set up to make playing chords
and harmony very easy and straight forward.
This hands-on workshop will cover using chords and
how to apply them to both slow and fast tunes.
We'll cover techniques that will help you combine
harmony and rhythm to help you create your own
arrangements.
Early Bird Fee: $20 |
