KITTY
Raised with a background of classical music, Kitty started piano in 2nd grade and violin in 4th. She played in the school orchestra through high school, but then put her fiddle in the case. Her plans included college and graduate school, not becoming a fiddler in a bluegrass band.
However, her brother Andy changed everything when he started taking banjo lessons from Cincinnati's best banjo player, Vernon McIntyre. The two men became close friends and brother Andy introduced Kitty to the bluegrass sound and to Vernon and the Appalachian Grass. She fell in love with the music and Vernon or maybe with Vernon and then the music. In the early 1980s, she took her fiddle back out of the case and practiced 'til she could join the band and travel on the road with them. And that's exactly where she has been ever since!
