Meet Laura
Laura's interest in music
began at an early age. At the beginning of the fourth grade, the
saxaphone was her chosen instrument. She carried it back and forth on
the long walk to school every day... and really wished she'd picked the
flute instead!
After high school she put the sax away, and spent time singing in
church, just for fun. She also became a youth director, writing plays or
figuring out new ways to work
funny skits and
demonstrations into the lessons she and her husband taught.
Vernon and Kitty invited Laura to be a part of the Famous Old Time Music
Company in November of 2007. Who could guess that her crazy hodgepodge
of life experiences would make this a perfect fit? She watches over the
music store, greeting customers with a smile and a friendly word. Acting
as a "girl Friday", she helps with any projects that come along. She
also takes part in the planning of many shows and events.
Her involvement in these shows increased drastically with the first
Appalachian Opry. Vernon's idea for this fast-paced variety show got the
gears turning. She threw out some ideas, and the Appalachian Opry Comedy
Crew was born. Since their debut in January, they have filled the
auditorium with laughter time and time again. In fact, they were so well
received, they are now an anticipated part of every
Opry.
So, you may ask, what is Laura's life like outside of FOTMC? Mostly, she
likes to hang out at home with her family. You can usually find her
typing away at her favorite
writing desk. But
if you see her there, don't be surprised if she suddenly breaks out in
uncontrollable giggles... She's probably working on another skit! |
