Jenny Lee was born and raised in Northern Kentucky, and grew up with an eclectic taste in music and an eagerness to learn about all genres. She started reading music at age 9 and learned classical music by playing the clarinet throughout elementary, middle, and high school. Her passion for music led her to Ireland where she studied Irish folk music, which influenced her to learn the guitar. Following several years of classical guitar study she decided to explore other types of music.
After seeing a KET special on Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass music, her interest in bluegrass was sparked. Eventually, after months of searching for bluegrass guitar teachers she stumbled upon the Famous Old Time Music Company in Cincinnati where she studied under Vernon McIntyre. She is also learning the mandolin, but the guitar remains her primary instrument.
Jenny performed on the Appalachian Opry in Wapakoneta, OH for many years, singing as well as participating in improvised comedy skits. She joined the Appalachian Grass in 2018 and has just released her first CD, Better Late ThanNever. More information about the CD can be found on www.JennyLeeBluegrass.com.
Her musical heroes are the Osborne Brothers, Ella Fitzgerald, Otis Redding, Paul Williams, Jimmy Martin, Ronnie McCoury, Tony Rice, and The Country Gentlemen.
