Friday, October 19 takes us to the Butler County Bluegrass Association at 200 Warwick Rd, Hamilton, OH  45013.  Showtime is 7pm; donation requested at the door.  They serve good, downhome food, too.  Save me a corncake!

Sunday, October 21, Appalachian Grass is entertaining at the Annual Walk with Nature Fall Festival in St. Marys, OH.  Sponsored jointly by the St. Marys Kiwanis Club and the Heritage Trails Park District, the Festival features a farmer’s market, tours of historical St. Marys, and arts and crafts show, a car show, and the beautiful walking trails along St. Marys historic canal.  I’ve walked that trail and it is beautiful in the autumn weather with the trees turning colors.  Appalachian Grass plays from 2pm til 4:30.  Hope to see you there!

Update from my How to Play in a Bluegrass Band Class at the Oxford Community Arts Center… having reviewed the material covered during the first class meeting, we moved on to riffs you might use to make a simple melody (still I’ll Fly Away) fancier and more interesting to play and to hear.  As the class was dispersing for the evening, one of the members asked me to write out some of the riffs we had discussed and record them in the context of the tune.  Brilliant idea!!  Give me a couple of days then check the fotmc.com blog at  https://www.fotmc.com/bi-monthly-bluegrass-blog-from-famous-old-time-music-co/.  I plan to post a couple of items generated by this discussion. 

I am considering offering a similar class at my Cincinnati studio.  I already have a fiddler, a banjo player, and hopefully a guitar picker.  I’d REALLY like to have a bass, too.  Anybody interested in details, contact me at fotmc@iglou.com.

Vinoklet Winery has regrouped after last weekend’s rain and is looking forward to their CAN’T STOMP US festival, this Saturday, September 15!  It will be a full day of family fun with lots of Music, Food, and Wine.  The Can’t Stomp Us festival starts at noon with Vinoklet’s famous Fried Chicken Special and bluegrass by Vernon McIntyre’s Appalachian Grass.  Afternoon entertainment includes classic rock with Out on Bond and Vinoklet’s annual Grape Stomping, hosted by Chris and Janeen of WGRR radio (that ought to be a hoot!).  Grilled to Perfection dinner offered from 5pm til 8pm (reservations required).  Evening musical entertainment provided by Second Wind with ‘horn-charged Rock and Roll Soul’.  Of course, wine tasting goes on all day; make sure to sample some of Vinoklet’s award winning product.  Be there or be square!

I’m all excited!  Vinoklet Winery has kindly agreed to have us continue our weekly Bluegrass shows through December.  Sooooooo, make plans to join us on Wednesdays for dinner and an evening of bluegrass at 11069 Colerain Ave.

I am also looking forward to the Vinoklet Art and Wine Festival coming up this weekend, September 7 through 9.  I have never attended the Festival but have heard so much about it!  Appalachian Grass is part of the Friday evening entertainment lineup.  The Festival features lots of free

entertainment:  enjoy the beautiful setting with the charming hilltop restaurant & gazebo overlooking 30 acres of perfectly tended vineyards; sing, dance, and shop the wares offered by juried arts & crafts vendors; enjoy the Grape Stomping Contest pitting the Colerain Police Department against the Colerain Fire Department; plus there is lots of live musical entertainment throughout the weekend!  Good food and drink is available for purchase.  Vinoklet will, of course, offer wine tasting, a Fried Chicken dinner on Sunday, and their Grilled to Perfection dinner on both Saturday and Sunday.  Other food and drink options are offered by various food trucks and assorted beer vendors.  Find more details on their webpage at https://www.vinokletwines.com/single-post/2018/08/09/Art-Wine-Festival.

Saturday, August 25  –   Bluegrass Market, Boone County Fairgrounds, Burlington, KY
The Bluegrass Market, hosted at the Boone County Fairgrounds, is dedicated to delivering family friendly, entertaining activities and to using the proceeds to benefit both the Kentucky Equine Humane Society and the US Veterans.  The Market takes place Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26.  Vendors include hand-crafted merchandise, antiques, and upcycled treasures.  There is a wide selection of food trucks on site, so you don’t have to go hungry.  The McIntyre Bluegrass Trio will be strolling through the Market from 11:30 til 2:30 on Saturday.  A performance by Boone County’s own Champion Elite Equestrian Drill Team is also scheduled for Saturday.  The Vintage/Classic car show is slated for Sunday.
